Owning a home takes a lot of maintenance, something you already know if you own a home. Along with maintenance, repairs come up occasionally. The first thing to do is gather some supplies. To repair cracked cement in San Diego, you’ll need the following items:
Eye protection
Waterproof gloves
A concrete repair product (Will come in a tube similar to caulking)
Caulk gun
Chisel and hammer
Small broom or brush
Utility knife
Trowel (optional)
To begin, you’ll need to widen the crack to approximately 1/4 inch with the chisel and hammer. Also remove any crumbling cement along the edges. The edges should be either vertical, or an inverted “V” shape. Be sure to wear your eye protection while doing this, so that no loose debris flies up and damages your eyes. Brush away any loose debris.
Once the crack is widened and cleaned, you’ll apply the concrete repair product. There are a few different types, including general concrete repair, concrete crack seal and self-leveling polyurethane sealant.
